Information about Attendance and Conduct at Council
Meetings
by Members of the Public and Press The Parish Council meets on the first Tuesday in every month, at 7:30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend and listen to the business being discussed. There is a period of 10 minutes public speaking time at the beginning of every meeting for members of the public to raise matters with the Council, after which they may not speak during the meeting. It is recommended that prior notice of the matter should have been given to the Clerk so that any data which might assist in dealing with the matter can be made available. The Clerk can deal with certain routine matters under delegated authority (meaning the specific permission of the Council will not be necessary), such as ordering repairs to street-lamps. The business of the council is generally open to public scrutiny - copies of agendas and minutes and the council's accounts are available for members of the public to read at the office. Very occasionally, when the subject of discussion involves confidential matters, for example concerning the council's employee[s], or contracts which the council may be considering, the public and press can be excluded from the meeting by virtue of a statutory provision. In addition to the plenary sessions, the council's Committees meet from time to time. The standing committees are in respect of Planning, Amenities and Highways. The same rules concerning public attendance apply as to the full council. |
